…..and then came the winter (early edition – Hostel Maxi!). However, fear not as we have another helping of sonic enjoyment and dates for your diary. First up is a rather neat and imaginative EP from Warp/Uncharted Audio’s very own life-model, conceptual noisemaker and all-round decent fellow Mr John Callaghan.
Thirty Years on the Dancefloor contains four previously unreleased tracks from the JC archives, including the title track alongside 3.5 minute electro-pop gems Fall In Love With Me, I Feel Fine and Glass Ceiling. If you like what you hear (which, of course you will) please spare no time in heading over to Uncharted Audio’s store to purchase John’s rather excellent new collection It Might Never Happen.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch the charmingly titled Death By Zoe follows up her sterling contribution the first Rebellious Jukebox sampler with a full-blown EP of slide-tackling, hook-laden dancefloor fillers. In amongst the irresistible electro grooves you’ll find broken samples of Kate Moss, Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson and a cynical swipe at the US occupation of Iraq – all within 13 minutes of MP3 compressed sexiness. What more could you ask?
On the live front, we’d very much like to big up the affiliated Rare As a Green Dog return to the RNCM in November. Curated (on this occasion) by co-conspirator Mr Paul Green, the line-up includes Jukebox favourites Caro Snatch and the Peterloo Massacre, with a special guest headline appearance from the marvellous (and highly revered) Barbara Morgenstern.
Right, that’s just about all for now – next update will include a couple of full length albums as well as our collective “interpretation” of the 1967 seminal classic The Velvet Underground and Nico. Happy cycling…
